Experimental Evidence for Inhibition of ^-Nitroso Compound Formation as a Factor in the Negative Correlation between Vitamin C Consumption and the Incidence of Certain Cancers1

چکیده

Ascorbic acid (ASC) consumption is negatively correlated with the incidence of certain cancers. This is a review and update of the theory, which has recently been neglected, that this negative correlation is due to ASC inhibition of in vivo nitrosation. The review covers the older litera ture on ASC inhibition of carcinogenesis by nitrite administered with amines or amides and more recent studies on ASC inhibition of nitrosa tion by bacteria, nitrogen oxides, and activated macrophages; the role of oxygen in ASC inhibition of gastric nitrosation; ASC inhibition of Nnitrosoproline formation in subjects from areas with high incidences of certain cancers; dose and temporal relationships between ASC and in vivo nitrosation in humans; the role of substances other than ASC in the inhibition of nitrosation by vegetables and fruits; and the active secretion of ASC into the human stomach.

Evaluation of Serum CRP and Vitamin D in Rheumatoid Arteritis Patients and Healthy People

Abstract Background and Objective: C- reactive protein (CRP), as an acute phase reactant and a reliable marker of inflammation, increases due to inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid Arteritis and infectious conditions. New evidence shows that Vitamin D may have important effects on adjusting and reducing the Immune Responses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between...

اندازه گیری میزان ویتامین ث با روش تیتراسیون دو مرحله ای اکسیداسیون – احیا در انواع مرکبات

Background and purpose:Epidemiological evidence has suggested that consumption of fruits reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease. These benefits are often attributed to their high antioxidant components such as vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Citrus species are extremely rich sources for this vitamin, therefore we decided to determine the amount of vitamin C ...

Correlation of prenatal vitamin D deficiency and neonatal urinary tract infection

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection during pregnancy and different age groups of children, including the neonatal period. It comprises 1/3 of bacterial infections in newborn infants, with a prevalence of 0.1-1% in term and 4-25% in preterm neonates. UTI occurs more commonly in male neonates (M/F: 2-6/1) for the higher incidence of structural abnormalities (1,2). Urin...

I-19: The Selective Vitamin D Receptor Agonist Elocalcitol Reduces Development of Endometriosis and Formation of Peritoneal Adhesion in A Mouse Model

Background: Endometriosis is a chronic disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Endometrial cells from retrograde menstruation implant on peritoneal surfaces and elicit an inflammatory response, associated with angiogenesis, fibrosis, neuronal infiltration, and anatomical distortion. Affecting an estimated 176 million women worldwide, the condition is sti...
